O Mankind! To You God Speaks
Quranic Quotations
Compiled by
Dr. Mohamed I. Elmasry
"O Mankind,
We created you
from the same male and female",
(so none of you have inherent
superiority over others).
We have made you
into nations and tribes
(not to despise and fight one another but)
to get to know one another,
(hence co-operate with one another,
and appreciate one another).
Indeed, the noblest among you,
in the sight of God, is the one
who is most conscious of his Creator;
(loving Him and following His Commands),
God is All-Knowing, All-Aware."
(49) : 13
"O Mankind,
Eat from what (We have made available
to you) on Earth,
(provided that it is)
lawful and good and
Do not follow Satan's footsteps
(trying to convince you that
what is unlawful is lawful
and what is bad is good).
as he (Satan) is clearly your enemy."
(2) : 168
"O Mankind,
Remember all God's blessings upon you.
Is there any Creator, other than God,
Who provides for your sustenance,
out of the sky and earth?!
Indeed, there is no deity except He,
How then, do you turn away
(from the Truth)?!"
(35) : 3
"O Mankind,
It is you who are in need of God,
God alone is free of all needs,
Worthy of all praise."
(35) : 15
"O Man,
What has lured you away
from your Generous Lord ?!
Who created you,
shaped you perfectly and
put you together in whatever form
He willed,
Nevertheless you reject the Religion."
(82) : 6-9
"O Mankind.
There has come to you,
(The Quran which contains)
Commands from your Lord and
a cure and a healing
for whatever (ill) in the chests
(and hearts of Mankind),
(and also it contains)
guidance and mercy
for those who believe (in the Quran).
(Therefore, O Muhammed, to Mankind) say:
"With God's Bounty and Mercy
(by sending the Quran and calling you to Islam)
you should be indeed happy and rejoice".
(Indeed, Mankind should know that)
this (Bounty and Mercy;
Islam and Quran) is better
than all what they accumulate
(of worldly wealth)."
(10) : 57-58
"O Mankind,
An example is explained to you,
therefore listen (carefully) to it.
All those whom you may worship
and ask for help, other than God,
cannot create (even) a fly,
even if all of them join forces, and
if a fly robs them of anything,
they cannot rescue it from that fly.
How weak and helpless are those
(whom you many worship, other than God)
and who weak and helpless are
those who worship them."
(22) : 73
"Say (O Muhammed):
O Mankind,
The Truth from your Lord
has come to you.
Whoever (accepts it, follows it, and)
seeks its guidance
will benefit only himself and
whoever chooses to go astray
(by rejecting the Truth),
will inflict harm only on himself;
as I am not a guardian over you,
(but I am only God's Messenger who
delivers the Truth)."
(10) : 108
"Say (O Muhammed):
O Mankind,
For all of you, I am God's Messenger,
To Whom belongs the Kingdom of
Heavens and Earth.
There is no deity except He.
He gives both life and death".
Believe, then in God and His Messenger;
the Prophet who cannot read nor write and who believes in God and His Words.
Follow him so you will be guided."
(7) : 158
"Say (O Muhammed):
O Mankind,
I am sent by God to give you
a clear warning;
those who believe and do good deeds,
they are granted forgiveness and
the most generous reward (from their Lord),
while those who deny our revelations
(The Quran)
and spread their denial,
they are destined to the blazing fire."
(22) : 49-51
"O Mankind,
If you are ever in doubt about
the fact that We will resurrect you,
then (consider how We created you);
(First) We created you from dust*,
then out of a tiny drop of semen,
then out of a suspended clot,
then out of (an embryonic lump which
looks like) a chewed lump,
a size of mouth-full,
(partly) formed and (partly) unformed,
(We created you in such stages
and We are now identifying them to you),
so We reveal (Our power) to you.
(Then after these stages of creation),
Whoever We will (to be born),
We cause to rest in the mother's womb,
for a time period (set by Us),
(and whoever We will not to be born),
We cause the mother's womb to reject it),
and then We bring you out as infants
(and We provide for you so)
you will reach full growth,
some of you will pass away (early in life),
while others will reach such feeblest old age
as they will know nothing of what they
once have known.
*reference is made to the fact that God created Adam,
from whom all mankind is descended, from dust. Also it is a reference to every human
being's biological origin which is from earthly substances.
(O Mankind,
If you still are in doubt about the fact that We will resurrect you then)
Consider the earth when it is dry
and lifeless and when We send down
water upon it,
it stirs and swells and
produces in pairs every kind of lovely plant.
Indeed God alone it the Truth;
(The True Creator
Who alone creates what He wills).
Indeed, He will resurrect the dead;
He is capable of everything.
Indeed the Time (of Day of Judgement)
is coming, no doubt about that,
and God will resurrect all who are
in the graves (and hold them accountable)."
(22) : 5-8
"O Mankind,
Be conscious of your Lord;
(Love Him and follow His Commands).
Be fearful from (thus be prepared for,
the Day of Judgement,
The Day when everyone is only accountable
for his/her deeds alone);
The Day when no parent can defend his offspring,
or be accountable on their behalf,
Nor a child can defend his/her parents
or be accountable on their behalf.
God's promise (of resurrection and
accountability) is true indeed.
Therefore, do not let this worldly life
lure you away (from God) and
do not let the lurers tempt you
(not to believe and do good deeds)
by (making you misunderstand) God;
(His Mercy and His Forgiveness).
Indeed, God alone has the knowledge
of the Time (of the Day of Judgement),
He (is also the One Who) sends the rain,
and knows what is in the wombs* (of mothers).
No one knows what he/she will earn tomorrow
and no one knows in what land he/she will die;
God alone is All-Knowing, All-Aware."
(31) : 33-34
*Not only the sex and the features of the to-be-born infants(s), but
also what his/her character, role in life, earnings, when and where he/she
will die...etc.
"O Mankind,
Be conscious of your Lord;
(Love him and follow His Commands).
As the earthquake associated with
the Day of Judgement is indeed
a mighty event.
When you witness (that Day),
(because of the seriousness of the situation),
You will see every nursing mother,
neglecting her own (beloved) child,
as the child has been suckling,
You will see every pregnant woman
have a miscarriage of her (beloved) child-to-be,
You will see people in a drunken state,
although they are not drunk,
but God's punishment is indeed severe,
(and the fear of it has put them in such a state)."
(22) : 1-2
"Say (O Muhammed):
O you who follow the Jewish faith,
If you claim that you alone are
God's exclusive friends and favourites,
apart from the rest of Mankind,
then if you are truthful,
wish that God invokes death soon on you,
(so you end up in Paradise which
God has promised all His friends and favourites)".
but they will never wish that god invoke
death soon on them because of what
they did, God is Aware of the transgressors
(who transgress on the Truth)."
(62) : 6-7
"O Mankind,
Verily, the Messenger has brought you
The Truth from your Lord,
Therefore, believe (in God, in His Messenger and in
the Truth) for your own good,
but if you disbelieve,
(You will not harm God's Kingdom),
As to God belongs all that is in
the Heavens and Earth,
God is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
O People of the Book (Christians),
Do not make up exaggerations in your faith and
say nothing about God except the Truth.
Christ; Jesus the son of Mary,
is only God's Messenger,
(who has been created by God through) His Word
(Be) given to Mary and
a spirit (which was given) by Him.
Therefore, believe in God and all His Messengers.
Do not speak of (and believe in) the trinity and
refrain (from speaking of and believing in the
trinity), for your own good.
God is the only one God,
All Glory be to Him, (far Exalted is He) above
having a son,
as to Him belongs all that is in the Heavens,
and all that is in and on the Earth.
Sufficient is God as the only guardian,
(looking after the affairs of the whole Universe;
He does not need a son).
Never did Christ feel too proud to be
God's worshippers and servant,
nor do the angels who are near (God).
Whoever feels to proud and arrogant to worship
and serve Him (should know that),
He will summon them all
(on the Day of Judgement);
As for those who believed and
did good deeds, God will grant them
their just and full rewards and
will give them yet more our of His Bounty,
Whereas those who felt too proud
to worship God,
He will punish them with
a painful torment and
they will find none other than God to protect
and help them."
(4) : 170-173
"Say (O Muhammed):
O People of the Book (Jews and Christians)
Do you disapprove of us, blame and hate us,
only because we believe in God (alone) and
in what was revealed to us (the Quran) and
in what was revealed before (the Quran),
(or because) most of you are disobedient
(to God's Commands to believe in Him, the
Quran and the revelations before the Quran)."
(5) : 59
"O People of the Book (Jews and Christians)
Our Messenger (Muhammed) has come to you,
to make (the Truth) clear to you,
after a time period when
no messengers have been sent*,
lest you should say "no bearer
of glad tidings nor any warner
has come to us."
But now, to you, a bearer of glad tidings
and a warner has come.
God is All-Capable of everything."
(5) : 19
*God has sent His Last Prophet and Messenger, Muhammed, to
Mankind, including Jews and Christians, about 600 years after Christ.
"Say (O Muhammed):
O People of the Book (Jews and Christians),
Let us come to common terms
(to be binding on both you and us):
(1) that you and we shall worship none but God,
(2) that you and we shall associate
no divinity with Him, and
(3) that you and we shall not take
others among us as our lords*."
If they (the Jews and Christians) turn away
(from these common terms) then
all of you (O Muslims) say "Bear
witness that we are (alone) Muslims
(submitting ourselves to God and God alone to the
His Commands)."
(3) : 64
*These lords could be people, e.g. priests, popes, saints,...etc..and could
be ideas e.g. hereditary superiority.
"O Mankind,
Worship (sincerely) your Lord,
Who created you and
those who were before you,
So that you can attain Taqwa*."
(2) : 21
*A high status of success of being among those blessed group of believers
who have submitted to their Lord, who are pious and righteous, who have
correct and strong beliefs, who do good deeds and abstain from doing evil
deeds as commanded by their Lord in His Last Word; The Quran and as
explained and practiced by His Last Messenger and Prophet Muhammed
(may peace by upon him).
"O Mankind,
There has come to you,
from Your Lord,
(convincing) proof (by Our Messenger) and
We sent down to you (the Quran;)
a manifest light (for guidance).
As for those who believe
in God and hold him firm unto Him (by following
His guidance),
He will admit them into
His Mercy and Bounty;
guiding them towards Him,
following a straight path."
